Susan Rhode
Farm Journal Media Director of Marketing
I personally worked with Rachel on several large creative projects that required tremendous organization and logistics. Not only did she provide exceptional management of these projects, but she was able to keep them logistically viable while also contributing tremendously to the creativity and quality of the project above all. This is a tricky balance, requiring a unique skill set and personality. Rachel has both.
Previous Co-Worker
Rachel is an advocate. As my manager, she relentlessly advocated for my personal and career growth. She helped me defend and pursue ideas, and she built my confidence. I watched her build up other team members and offer them new and unique opportunities to grow.
Rachel has integrity. She’s not easily swayed by outside forces and won’t take the easy way out. I witnessed Rachel stand up for what was right on numerous occasions, and the company was better for it.
Rachel isn’t afraid to have difficult conversations. She’s governed by logic and isn’t afraid to face conflict if it moved a project or initiative in the right direction. Conversely, Rachel doesn’t hold back praise and I felt her appreciation. I treasured her approval because I knew she meant it.
Rachel cares about her team. She led by example and showed me how important it was to set realistic work/life expectations early in my career. Rachel showed me compassion and actively sought a more flexible and accommodating workplace not just for me, but for our team.
I genuinely enjoyed working with Rachel and can account for the positive impact she had on the company during my time there. As my manager during my first year out of college, she set the bar high for what a manager should be.
